Makeover Monday: Easter Basket Tutu Redo

From plain jane to just plain adorable!

Easter's coming up. No big shocker there. Happens every year. This year Zara needed an Easter basket that goes with her beautiful pink dress. The green one from last year just wasn't going to cut it. The white one worked, but it was a bit plain. So what does a mama with a glue gun do? Make a tutu, of course.

Ingredients:
  • Basket
  • Tulle
  • Ribbon
  • Rubber band
  • Glue gun with glue sticks
  • Buttons
  • Scissors

The ingredients.

I happened to have a rubber band that fit around the basket perfectly. If you don't have one, tie some elastic around it. Same difference.

A large rubber band near the top of the basket.

Very, very, very carefully (hot glue is so hot!) glue the tulle around the rubber band (not touching the actual basket) in one inch increments. Gather it by hand as you go. There's no need for perfect gathers. It'll look great in the end anyway.

Lots of tulle.

Glue trim over the rubber band. I used an elastic ruffly trim and instead of gluing it completely around, I just tacked it in places.

Love that ruffly trim!

To make the bow, cut a length of ribbon and make the loops like in the photo below. Glue it all together. Again, be careful.

Loops!

Cut a small length of ribbon and glue it around the middle. Then, cut a long length of ribbon and dovetail the ends. Fold it in half and glue the middle of it to the back of the bow.

Making the bow tails.

Glue the bow to the basket's tutu. I glued two buttons to the bow just for a little extra something cute.

Finished bow.

And that's it! Notice the tissue paper in the photo below? Yeah...I've banned Easter grass from the house. Whoever invented that must not have had children. That stuff is messy!

Pretty! And not at all messy.

Wherever I am, Timandra's right there begging for attention. She just had to check out Zara's Easter basket.

This basket is Timandra approved.
