A Mother's Day Card

Yup! Love you, Mom!

Mother's Day is coming up! Yay! I guess. Whatever. I don't get that excited over holidays. Except for Halloween. Anyway, I made a card for my Mom (just getting how that makes me sound like a 5 year old) and this is how that happened.

Seashell Candle Holder

This is my I Wanna Be At The Beach candle holder.

Some of you may recognize this concept from the post I did called Super Simple Easter Decor (Peeps!) using Peeps and jellybeans. Easter's over and it's time for a change. This candle holder (or vase, either way) is also Super Simple and made me long for the beach.

Gift Card Holder

Make someone's special day a bit more special with a gift card in a handmade holder.

It's time, once again, for Iron Craft's weekly challenge. This week's challenge is to make a wedding gift. I have no weddings coming up in the future, so this challenge was a bit more challenging than usual for me. It really made me think. And think. And then I had a breakthrough. I normally give gift cards. The holders that come with them are usually plain, so why not make a pretty one? (And save it for some hypothetical future wedding.)

Spring Flowers

Enjoying the sunshine.

The profusion of spring flowers in our garden have made me so happy this year. On sunny days I like to take my camera outside and let Zara point out all of the flowers she wants me to photograph. It's cheap entertainment and she just might be learning something. Even if she's not, it's a lot of fun. Here's our latest bunch of flowers.

Makeover Monday: From Easter Egg to Egg Salad for One {recipe}

A super-yummy sandwich.

Ever wonder what to do with all of those Easter eggs once the festivities are over? Well, I made a delicious egg salad. And, since I'm the only one who'll eat it around here, I made Egg Salad for One. Technically two. This recipe makes 1/2 cup, so there's enough for two sandwiches.

Happy Easter! - some eggs and a sun catcher garland

Easter eggs are just so much fun! We only did a few, so I had to use a few plastic stand-ins.

This is the first year my daughter Zara has been able to dye Easter eggs and we had a blast doing them. Here are a few of my favorites.

Coconut Easter Cookes {recipes}

Strangely enough, these look so much better in the photo than in real life.

 I have been so inspired by Sugar Belle's beautifully decorated cookies that I thought I'd give it a try. *Cue canned laughter* Decorating cookies is a new skill-set for me...and I need more practice. Here's a hint: When the professional says to use a decorating bottle for each color, do it.

New button & header!

This post was formerly titled "Test" but I decided to publish it. I'm too excited not to share. I finally make a header and button for Happy Cake Crafts! Woohoo! Get out the confetti, people! Feel free to grab the button code from over there on the right. Okay, that's it. See you again tomorrow. :-D

Happy Cake Crafts

*edit: I used the tutorial from Mommy Bits to make the button code box thingy. One extra tip: Replace all of the quotation marks in the code with, get this,...quotation marks! Smart quotes will mess the whole thing up.

From Makeup Bag to Wristlet: A Makeover Story

A sparkly wristlet.

No, don't bother checking your calendar. It's not Monday, but this is a makeover post. It's actually two makeovers in one. A 2-for-1 deal. Iron Craft's challenge this week is called Taxman. The challenge is to make something to do with money, but not counterfeiting. I assume. Let's hope.

Once upon a time (all good stories start with once upon a time) I had a chain belt with a coin detail in my stash of Stuff-I-Never-Use-But-Might-Someday. That stash is getting crazy, by the way. Also in my stash? A makeup bag I never used. It was a freebie and pretty cute, but too big for my purse and I like a clear makeup bag, anyway. It just makes it easier to find everything in a hurry. But I digress...so here's how I turned my makeup bag into a wristlet.

A Dressed-Up Hair Clip

Sparkly and pink! So perfect for Zara.

Here is a sweet little hair clip I whipped up for Zara for Easter. As always, it's Super Simple and super cute.

Makeover Monday: Easter Basket Tutu Redo

From plain jane to just plain adorable!

Easter's coming up. No big shocker there. Happens every year. This year Zara needed an Easter basket that goes with her beautiful pink dress. The green one from last year just wasn't going to cut it. The white one worked, but it was a bit plain. So what does a mama with a glue gun do? Make a tutu, of course.

Nature-Inspired Earrings

Pretty, dangly earrings.

I had just enough beads left over from my Nature-Inspired Necklace to make Nature-Inspired Earrings to go with it. Woohoo! I really love making earrings. They're easy, fast, and fun. Usually. Luckily for me, these definitely were.

A Nature-Inspired Necklace

I <3 nature...as long as I don't actually have to go out in it.

 I have my friend Laura to thank for my new nature-inspired necklace. She gave me a couple of goody bags from her neighborhood bead store and the vast majority of this necklace (and tomorrow's earrings) came from those fab little bags. Thanks a bunch, Laura! This necklace uses basic jewelry-making techniques, but does take a little while to assemble. This is a great project to do in front of the television.

Super Simple Easter Decor (Peeps!)

Peeps = Instant Cute

This week's Iron Craft challenge posed an interesting question. Bunny or Chick?  Peeps, that is. The challenge was to make something, anything, out of Peeps. I knew almost immediately what I wanted to do. I had two candle jars, one small and the other large, with just enough space in between the two for some...you guessed it...Peeps! So I made a candle holder/vase. Seems obvious to me. Oh, and I chose bunnies.

Marbelized Glass Marble Ring

My new big, blue ring. <3 <3 <3

While getting dressed last week I noticed a gap in my jewelry collection. I needed a blue and silver statement ring. Well...I did! I looked through all of my craft supplies and couldn't find a single blue thing that would work. So, I made something. I keep a jar of glass marbles for various crafts. Perfect! This project is pretty easy. The hardest part is waiting for everything to dry. I can be so impatient sometimes!

Makeover Monday: Glass Vase Update

The pink tissue paper is purely for show. It just makes the text easier to photograph.

This Makeover Monday's project is more subtle than the other things I've done, but I think it's cute. I updated a glass vase that I've been using to hold paintbrushes. This was pretty easy to do and it carries a very important message: CREATE TODAY! And, yes, my vase is shouting at me. Sometimes that's the only way I listen.

My Week in Photos

My family...and me?!?

Last weekend my family and I packed up and headed to Cincinnati, OH. We tend to go there fairly often. There's tons of stuff to do. One of our favorite things is the zoo and we actually managed to make it there twice on this trip. When Zara saw the photo above, I asked her who was in it. Her reply? "Mommy, Daddy, and Zara!" Umm...yeah.... Anyway, here are some of my favorite photos of the past week. Hope you enjoy!

Peeps Cupcakes

Peep, peep, peep, etc.

Every year we go to Grandma's for Easter and we all bring something to share. I haven't decided what I'm making for Easter this year, but here's what I did last year. I thought I was being so clever making Peeps cupcakes. Yeah...someone bought nearly identical ones from the grocery store.

Life is Beautiful: A Spring Postcard

Spring is in the air and life is beautiful.

Iron Craft day!!! I really enjoyed this week's challenge. The challenge was to make a postcard. That's it. Easy-peasy and oh so fun! I went with a spring theme because the flowers are blooming in my yard and life is indeed beautiful.

Guest Post from Memories by Christine Scrapbooking: Dance Bag Non-Tutorial

Hi, all! I'm thrilled to introduce Christine from Memories by Christine Scrapbooking as my very first guest. She'll be teaching us how to make a dance bag. Welcome, Christine!

* * * * *

Hi everyone!
Thank you, Tabitha, for letting me join you today:) I'm Christine from Memories by Christine scrapbooking. I adore paper crafting, scrapbooking, digital scrapbooking...basically anything where I can archive my memories, and I love teaching others how to as well! Please visit MBC if you need a layout idea or tutorial.

Today, I'm sharing a "non-tutorial" for a sweet little dance bag I made for my daughter's tap shoes. I am a beginner seamstress (*I don't even think the word "seamstress" applies to me!:), and I made this without a pattern- but it turned out super cute, and most importantly, my 4-year-old loves it, and thinks I'm the coolest mom because of it;)

Makeover Monday: A Candlestick Table

My freebie table. I <3 it!

I have been looking for a table forever to go next to my wing chair. My requirements: small, cheap, cute, cheap, sturdy,...cheap. So when I saw a table that Erin at Richmond Thrifter did using a lamp base and a picture frame, a light bulb went on over my head. Check out her Lamp Base Turned Pedestal Table post for complete details on how to make this. I made my table using a brass candlestick that my Grandma gave me ages ago, so I did a few different steps, but the idea is the same.

Happy Birthday!!!

Tomorrow is Seán's birthday, but I thought I'd give you a sneaky peek at his card before he sees it. Shh! Don't tell!
