Happy St. Patrick's Day! Irish soda bread & a lapel pin

Irish flag pin

Seeing as how Seán's Irish born and bred, Zara's an Irish citizen, and I lived in Killarney for the first three years of our marriage, we feel that we should make some sort of effort for St. Patrick's Day. Seán asked me to make a lapel pin of an Irish flag for him. He almost never asks for me to craft for him, so I jumped on the chance.

Ingredients:
  • Shrinky Dinks Rough & Ready plastic
  • Colored pencils (I used Prismacolors)
  • Mod Podge Dimensional Magic
  • Pin back
  • Glue

I drew the basic shape on the Shrinky Dinks plastic in white and colored it in. I cut the shape out, making sure to round the corners. Pointy corners will be very pointy after shrinking.

Shrinky Dinks - colored and cut out

Follow the directions on the package. Once it cools down (it really only takes a moment), add the Dimensional Magic to the rough side. If you get air bubbles, they can be popped with a pin or a toothpick.

Adding the Dimensional Magic

Let the Dimensional Magic dry. You can tell it's dry when it's clear. Then simply glue the pin on to the back. I glued the pin on an angle. The Shrinky Dinks shrunk a bit more than I had anticipated. Anyway. It's Super Simple, more or less. You do have to wait for the Dimensional Magic and glue to dry, but other than that it will only take a few minutes to complete.

Glue the pin onto the back. I used E6000, but any heavy duty glue will work

Seán was very sweet to model for me.

Seán loves his new pin.

Also in honor of St. Patrick's Day, Seán and Zara made Irish Soda Bread. I helped by mostly staying out of the way and taking photos. They used the Irish Soda Bread in a Skillet recipe from AllRecipes.com. It was so easy and so yummy!

Playing Pat-a-Cake for real.

Cooling on a rack.

They seem surprised it came out well.

You know you want a bite.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
