A Super Simple Frame Transformation

After about two and a half years, we're finally getting around to decorating Zara's bedroom. I know! About time! We're doing a French provincial theme in pink, green, and white. Well, we have the pink and green paint...still in the cans. That's our next big project. Painting the walls. And the floor. *groan* In the meantime, I've been working on accessories and decor. One thing I wanted to do was frame Sprick Space's gorgeous ABC and 123 charts. She was so generous to provide the printables for free, and, on top of that, there are many colors to choose from.
Here's what you'll need:
  • Frames (yeah, duh)
  • Acrylic paint of your choice
  • Sandpaper or emery board
  • Paint brush or sponge brush
  • 20 minutes or so of your time
And that's why I'm calling it Super Simple. This really couldn't be any easier or quicker to do. First thing I did was head to my home away from home - Hobby Lobby. These certificate frames are the perfect size for an 8.5x11 print off and they were half off.
My plain Jane cheapie frames.

They were low gloss, so I didn't bother sanding them down.

There's a bit of detail on the frames that I really liked.

My palette: a recycled bit of aluminum foil. Easy cleanup.

Using a very thin coat of pain, do all sides and edges.

Wait a minute or two and lightly sand in a few places.

My trusty sanding block.

You can still see the wood grain through the paint.

All finished and hanging on the wall!
From start to finish, this whole project took me around 20 minutes. That includes taking the (very bad) photos and hanging the pictures on the wall. The beauty of using a very thin coat of acrylic paint is that by the time that you finish painting, it's pretty much dry. There's so little waiting time, which is awesome, because who wants to watch paint dry?

Zara loves her new pictures and I love the fact that the whole project cost around $5.
