We all scream for snow cream!

Snow!!!

This is the sight that greeted me when I looked outside this morning. Snow, snow, and more snow! What's a girl to do with all that snow? (Yeah, I'm not shoveling that!)

Make snow cream, of course!



From the time I was a very little girl, my favorite winter memories were of Grandma making a big batch of snow cream when the first big snow hit. Now, I'm not gonna lie. Hers is way better than mine. I'm pretty sure she uses sweetened condensed milk. I didn't have any and made do with what I had.

I started out making the plain vanilla snow cream, but, meh. It needed something more. I came up with, get this...buttercream flavored snow cream. It's like eating frozen frosting. Love it! 

Bowl o'Snow
 Buttercream Snow Cream
makes 8 cups - 16 servings - 51 calories per serving

 Ingredients:
  • 1 big bowl of fresh snow (I used the largest mixing bowl I had. A popcorn bowl works, too.)
  • 2 cups of skim milk
  • 3/4 cups of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon of butter flavoring
Directions:
  1. Add the sugar and flavorings to the snow. 
  2. Add milk a bit at a time while stirring until the consistency is creamy.
  3. Pour the mixture into a freezable container and freeze for at least an hour.
  4. Nom. Nom. Nom.

I have no idea why it didn't occur to me until this year to try different flavors, but I'm so glad I did. The possibilities are endless. Snow cream is fast, easy, and, yes, Super Simple! The hardest part is waiting for the snow to fall...and deciding which flavor to try next.

We had yet another good snow storm, and so I got the chance to try out another recipe. I came up with...


 Citrus Snow Cream
makes 8 cups - 16 servings - 37 calories per serving

 Ingredients:
  • 1 big bowl of fresh snow
  • 2 cups of skim milk
  • 1/2 cups of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon of orange flavoring
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
Directions:
  1. Add the sugar and flavorings to the snow. 
  2. Add milk a bit at a time while stirring until the consistency is creamy.
  3. Pour the mixture into a freezable container and freeze for at least an hour.
  4. Nom. Nom. Nom.
