Super Simple Slipper Texturing

Performing Twinkle, Twinkle while wearing Elmo boots.

Since we ripped out all the old carpet from our house and installed laminate wood flooring, we discovered something. It's very hard for a toddler to walk on laminate wood flooring. We have bought the socks and the slippers with the rubbery stuff on the bottom. And she has outgrown the socks and slippers with the rubbery stuff on the bottom. We noticed that they tend to be more expensive than regular socks, so I came up with a bit of a "hack". Three words: dimensional fabric paint. Super Simple, right?

Zara loves what she calls her Elmo boots. They're fuzzy slippers and very warm and cozy. They also make her slip and slide all over the place. Time for me to whip out my dimensional fabric paint!

I use Polymark. It's very easy. You just let it dry for four hours and then wash after 72 hours. I'm sure any other brand would work just as well. I hope so, anyway. After doing a bit of research, I found out that brand is now discontinued.

Elmo boots that slip and slide.

You just draw whatever design you like on the bottoms. Have fun with this. I did a completely unintentional Easter egg kind of pattern. Hearts or paw prints would be cute and easy to do. Or you could keep it simple with stripes or polka dots.

Have fun with the design.

This really couldn't be easier. I painted the slippers and photographed them during a commercial break. And then I grabbed a Diet Dr. Pepper and still made it back before The Real Housewives of Wherever came back on.

  1. This is a great idea. My girls wear wool socks in the winter (it's freezing here), but they are very, very slippery on the wood floor. I think I might try this.

  2. Brilliant! I only wish we had wood floors for the grandgirlies to slip & slide on ... maybe some day. Thanks for sharing -- it's a great idea! Real Housewives fan too? Finally, a kindred spirit!
